JOB PURPOSE

The primary purpose of this role is to direct, organize, monitor, and manage the power supply (including solar), utility production and distribution (steam, water reservoirs, natural gas, electrical systems, sewer/effluent systems, compressed air, Ammonia Plant), and facility maintenance operations (buildings, HVAC, fire protection). Additionally, oversee site security, contracted facilities services (effluent plant, water treatment), and the sustainability management program (energy, water).

WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE

  • Ensure 100% utility availability to support site OEE targets.
  • Manage utilities operations and maintenance (HVAC, electricity, water, etc.) to prevent disruptions and provide emergency technical support.
  • Develop KPIs to link facilities and utilities effectiveness with production performance.
  • Supervise utility outages and maintenance, planning and reviewing work of subordinates/contractors.
  • Establish and review maintenance schedules and methods, allocating resources as needed.
  • Participate in policy development and implementation, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Evaluate employee performance in the field.
  • Manage outsourced services to meet performance levels.
  • Lead sustainability initiatives for utilities usage and performance.
  • Ensure building safety and functionality for occupants.
  • Develop preventative maintenance and safety programs for equipment.
  • Manage construction and upgrade projects, assisting with contracts and reports.
  • Coordinate training in maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Assist in budget preparation and administration, monitoring expenditures.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate new developments into programs.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

Experiences & Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
  • Advantageous Degree in mechanical/Electrical engineering would be advantageous.
  • GCC- Factories (advantageous)
  • Minimum 5 years of management experience in Utilities or Facilities, ideally in an FMCG environment
  • Minimum 5 years in an FMCG manufacturing, operational, or engineering role
  • 2-3 years of Ammonia Refrigeration Plant experience
  • Experience in continuous improvement/QA/lean manufacturing implementation
  • Knowledge and experience in operation and maintenance of utilities equipment
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements in a factory environment
  • Understanding of building maintenance, repair, and construction operations
  • Knowledge of local and municipal by-laws, OHSACT, and SANS codes and rules
